About this random team picker

A random team picker removes the part of team selection nobody enjoys. Keep the team names on the wheel and spin once per person, or paste your list of names and spin to assign each one.

This wheel starts in Fair Round, which is the mode that matters here: each entry is selected once and then held out until every other eligible entry has had a turn. That is what produces evenly sized teams instead of a lopsided draw.

When the round completes, the wheel says so and waits. Start a new round to reset participation without losing the list.

How to use this wheel

  1. Review the 4 starter choices below. Rename, disable or replace any that do not fit.
  2. Start a new round to make the choices eligible. Each winner sits out for the rest of the round.
  3. Click the wheel to spin. The result saves locally before it appears.
  4. Export results as CSV, or share a link to send someone their own copy.

Customize your odds

Each starter entry has weight 1. Turn on Weights & colors to adjust its chance. An entry’s probability is its weight divided by the total weight of the eligible choices. Learn how weighted odds work.

Changing a color or spin speed does not change the winner. Read the selection rules.

Questions about the random team picker

How do I split thirty students into four teams?

Put the four team names on the wheel, keep Fair Round on, and spin once per student. After each four assignments, start a new round manually. Complete rounds assign one student to each team; the wheel does not track your roster for you.

What is the difference between Fair Round and No Repeats?

They use identical selection rules. Fair Round is framed around everyone getting a turn, which suits classrooms and teams; No Repeats is framed as exclusion, which suits draws.

Can I paste names from a spreadsheet?

Open the choices list and paste your own, one per line or separated by commas. A spreadsheet column pastes in cleanly too.

What happens if I disable someone mid-round?

They stop being eligible immediately. Re-enabling someone who has already been picked does not give them a second turn in the same round.
